Water, Water Everywhere

Look outside: The weather seems great, but one or two warm storms out of the tropics melting the snowpack (which is at 200%) and we have 1997 again; or one earthquake on one of the faults in the East Bay knocking out those 150 year-old levees and disaster hits; not just for Northern California but Southern California, and the Central Valley, (the pics are illustrative) which means - much less water for swimming pools, golf courses and most importantly several crops go dry and whither away.

Confessions of a Repentant Republican

"I supported George W. Bush in the presidential election in 2000, believing then that he best reflected my love for America and for our tradition of liberty. I supported the war in Afghanistan. In March of 2003, I believed that the invasion of Iraq was justified based upon pre-war revelations presented to Congress and to the American people. Acordingly, the indictments contained herein apply, first and foremost, to myself.

Dear Bonnie:

Thank you for contacting me regarding CAFTA, the Central American Free Trade Agreement.  I agree that this is an important issue that deserves close attention.
Democrats Blew it on CAFTA Vote
Once again, I'd like to thank our Republican-lite Senator Dianne Feinstein for betraying us. Does anyone know if a real Democrat will be running for Senate next year?

Short answer: Since Governor Dean Comes from the most rural state in America, he believes in helping American farmers by fully funding the Rural Business Investment Program and protecting farmers from unfair competition.

Additional: Governor Dean would help our farmers by enforcing anti-trust law and blocking anti-competitive mergers that hurt family farmers. He would stop meatpackers from discriminating against family farmers and would restore the Conservation Security Program to its original funding. Although international markets are important for our farmers, Dean would protect them from unfair competition by inisisting on fair trade agreements that include reasonable labor and environmental standards. Dean would also require country-of-origin labeling to encourage consumers to buy American. He also favors the Value Added Producer Frants program, which helps family farmers.

Restoring Rural America

Restoring Rural America - Dean for America

One of the great unreported stories of the last few years is about the slow crumbling of our rural economy in America. Coming from the most rural state in America, I am especially familiar with the plight those communities face.

Rural unemployment has jumped over 50%, with 600,000 more rural Americans looking for work. Poverty rates are shameful -- almost 500,000 rural Americans fell below the poverty line in George Bush’s first year in the White House.
