The true rule in determining to embrace, or reject anything, is not whether it has any evil in it, but whether it have more of evil, than of good. There are few things wholly evil, or wholly good. Almost every thing, especially of governmental policy, is an inseparable compound of the two; so that our best judgment of the preponderance between them is continually demanded. - Abraham Lincoln, June 20, 1848

BlackBoxVoting investigates: LHS Associates and its exclusive control over NH's ballots

SOURCE: BlackBoxVoting.ORG John Silvestro and his small private business, LHS Associates, has the exclusive programming contracts for all New Hampshire voting machines, which combined will count about 81 percent of the vote tomorrow.

[Actually it's today ...]

Silvestro IS the New Hampshire chain of custody

Or at least a very large component in it.

Last fall, with the help of some New Hampshire citizens, Black Box Voting began working on a "New Hampshire Chain of Custody" project, in which we identified some of the areas of concern that might affect many jurisdictions at once. First on the list is LHS Associates, a vendor with inside access to every memory card in New Hampshire, as well as to the chips containing the "brain" of the Diebold optical scan machines.

LHS Associates programs all the memory cards in New Hampshire and Connecticut; about all of Vermont's voting machines, and has a lock on almost all of Massachusetts as well.

How to run as a delegate to the 2008 Democratic National Convention

How to . . .

Run as a District-Level Delegate

If you want to run to be one of California’s 241 District-Level Delegates to the 2008 Democratic National Convention (August 25-28, 2008 at the Pepsi Convention Center, Denver), here are the simple steps you will need to take to get started.

First, you must be a registered Democrat. While Democrats do allow Independents to vote in our Primary, we don’t allow anyone but a “card carrying” Democrat to run as a Delegate.

Second, what is your congressional district? If you don’t know because you recently moved or have a hard time keeping track of numbers, check the “2008 Delegate & Alternate Allocations by Congressional District” available on the CDP website at www.cadem.org/Delegate08 to find the name of your Congressmember. This list also shows how many Delegates and Alternates are allocated to each congressional district (CD). You can also enter your voter registration address in the “Resources” section at www.cadem.org to confirm your CD.

URGENT: Contact Supervisors to take up Iraq Resolution
UPDATE 01/08 10:14 pm - Republican Supervisors Susan Peters and Roberta MacGlashan used some procedural sophistry to avoid allowing the Board of Supervisors to vote on this resolution. Before the resolution could be discussed, they made a motion to remove the item from the agenda so that it COULD NOT be voted on. Don't worry Supervisor Peters, we have someone to run against you in November. You just made a bunch of people want to work extra hard to replace you!

================================

The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors is going to discuss a resolution calling for a "phased withdrawal of US forces from Iraq", tomorrow, Tues. Dec 8th at 3:30!! Please contact the supervisors below ASAP and if you can make it to the Supervisors meeting tomorrow, please show up by 3:00. BOS Meeting - 700 H STREET SUITE 1450, Sacramento 95814

Help support Roger Dickinson in his effort to get the Sacramento County Supervisors to endorse a resolution to bring our troops home safely from Iraq. Please ask them to support Supervisor Dickinson's call for a "phased withdrawal of US forces from Iraq". As you can imagine, the "Move America Backwards" folks will be out in force to try and shoot this resolution down. We need your support to let them know that the citizens of Sacramento County want our troops safely home, NOW!

If the costs for the occupation of Iraq continue as expected, the share of taxpayer dollars since the start of the war for the City of Sacramento alone will top $700,000,000.00 by the end of this year. And there is no end in sight. Of course, the costs for the county are even greater. This diversion of OUR taxpayer dollars is a direct impact on the County of Sacramento! Let them know all of the good things that the County could have done with this money. You can get some ideas here.

Here's the contact info for the members of the Sac County Board of Supervisors. Please contact all of the supervisors, but especially the supervisor for your district. Not sure which district you live in? Click here to find out.

Sacramento County Board of Supervisors to take up Iraq
Some support pullout plan as others ask: Is this really our call?
By Ed Fletcher - efletcher@sacbee.com | Published 12:00 am PST Saturday, January 5, 2008

Sacramento County supervisors will turn their attention Tuesday from their typical concerns – health care, the needy, roads, sewers and the like – to debate the deployment of U.S. forces in Iraq.

Supervisor Roger Dickinson is asking his colleagues to join him in calling for the "phased withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq."

Since the Iraq war began in 2003, more than 3,900 members of the U.S. military services have been killed. Fifteen of those called Sacramento County home, according to Dickinson's office.

"It's past time we make a planned and orderly withdrawal," Dickinson said. He added that any characterization of this as anti-troops would be "completely without foundation."

If the resolution finds three votes in support and is sent to Washington, D.C., it will have plenty of company. The cities of Sacramento and Davis each passed resolutions in 2005. Over the five years of the conflict, more than 100 local governments and a handful of states have, via resolution, voiced their opposition to the Iraq war.
Action - Demand Candidates be Included in TV Debates
I think we deserve to hear all of the candidates that have stepped up and are running for president. It's not like we are talking about a debate for the 45th state, we haven't even gotten to the 1st Primary yet!

Click here to DEMAND THAT THE CORPORATE MEDIA INCLUDE ALL BALLOT-QUALIFIED CANDIDATES IN THE TELEVISED DEBATES.

Regardless of whether you support Kucinich, Ron Paul or any other candidate that would be excluded from these debates if they were still running (like Dodd or Biden), the fact that the corporate media is forcing us to decide between what they have deemed as our only choices, should make every true American and defender of democracy feel outraged!

I'm far from a Ron Paul supporter, but he just received 10% of the vote in Iowa (3x more than Giuliani) and he raised more money last quarter than any other Republican; and Fox is excluding him from the debate!?! Do you think his anti-war views have anything to do with their decision?

It is past time for the American people to take back our democracy and our electoral process! We should throw in "taking over our media" as well...

Cheers,
Bill

From IndependentPrimary.com

Once again, the corporate media is trying to tell you which candidates you're allowed to vote for.

ABC and Fox News are sponsoring debates just before the New Hampshire presidential primary.

Both ABC and FOX are ruthlessly using their control of these debates to limit the choice of American voters -- before the first vote is cast!

Here's what they've done:
Back Restoration of Winnemem Wintu Recognition by Supporting AJR 39
Action Alert: Back Restoration of Winnemem Wintu Recognition by Supporting AJR 39

You have a unique chance to help right an historic wrong by supporting Assemblyman Jared Huffman's bill, AJR 39, to restore recognition of the Winnemem Wintu (McCloud River) Tribe. The bill will codify the State's de facto recognition of the Winnemem Wintu as a California tribe and encourage the Federal Government to correct their administrative error and restore the tribe's Federal recognition. I encourage you or the organization you represent to send a letter ASAP to support the tribe.

In September 2004 the Winnemem Wintu held a war dance at Shasta Dam to protest the Bureau of Reclamation's plan to raise Shasta Dam, a move that would flood the tribe's remaining sacred sites. The federal government wants to raise the dam in order to increase the capacity of Shasta Lake to provide increased water exports from northern California and the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta to Westlands Water District and southern California.

Attached is the action alert from the Winnemem Wintu Tribe, Environmental Justice Coalition for Water and NRDC, followed by a sample letter.

Action Alert: We have just sadly watched Congress hand Bush another $70 billion to continue the brutal and immoral U.S. occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan. As we mourn the loss of more life in these occupied lands, we also know we need to muster our energy, creativity, and dedication to work for peace and justice. We can and we must get our government back from the hands of the corporate cannibals and change our disastrous militaristic foreign policy.

One of the things we must continue to do is lobby our elected officials.

San Diego's registrar of voters, Deborah Seiler, is suing Secretary of State Bowen because she thinks that auditing extremely close elections is not feasible. Please note that Seiler is a former paid representative for Diebold! Yes, the same voting systems that need to be audited because they have been proven to be unreliable. I sense a conflict of interest here. Do you?

Bowen faces vote lawsuit
A post-election audit rule went too far, county claims.
By Jim Sanders - jsanders@sacbee.com | Published 12:00 am PST Thursday, December 20, 2007

Challenging the state's top election official, San Diego County is suing Secretary of State Debra Bowen for allegedly exceeding her authority in cracking down on electronic voting machines.

The suit, filed Tuesday, takes aim at one of many conditions imposed by Bowen after a state-funded study revealed security faults in three voting systems studied.

The suit is not intended to spark new controversy over the reliability and accuracy of electronic voting machines, however.

Deborah Seiler, San Diego registrar of voters, said the Feb. 5 presidential election is not threatened by the suit and that the county specifically is targeting post-election auditing, not security standards for voting systems.
ACTION ALERT - Don't Let the Senate Cave on Telecom Immunity, Domestic Spying
Please call Sen.'s Feinstein and Boxer now and urge them to STOP THE INTEL-PASSED S. 2248. Tell them you OPPOSE the Intelligence Committee bill, but you SUPPORT the Judiciary Committee bill! Although the Judiciary bill is not perfect, it does NOT grant immunity to the telecoms who illegally spied on American citizens.

Even if you call them after the vote has taken place, it is important to let them know how you feel. This bill may have to be reconciled with a House bill in the near future.

Columbo, FISA and YOUR rights
Columbo, FISA and YOUR rights

It's always the little details that trip up the criminals who think they're getting over on everyone else; they always forget one tiny detail that unravels the whole mendacious plot. Columbo knew how they think, he knew that some of the most intelligent people think they are way too clever for the rest of us -- people like Harry Reid. I told you he was going to do this.

Now, what's the tiny detail that they hoped no one would notice?

Well, there are two types of people whose skills would come into play here. It's something that most lawyers would miss, because their first thought is "how can I argue this point as it pertains to the law?" and this detail would be overlooked. And most electronic geeks would miss it, because how many tech geeks would ever read a court document? Not very many.

What's the detail?

CA residents: Can you spare 2 minutes?‏

CA residents: Can you spare 2 minutes?‏

If you have 2, 5 or 10 minutes to give today, Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) needs to hear from you.

We are headed into a crucial stage of the battle to fix the terrible FISA mess that Congress created this summer when it handed the Bush administration expanded power to spy on Americans.

Your Senator, Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), will cast an important vote when the Senate takes up a dangerous bill that is toxic to democracy and to the rule of law.

Among other things, senators will be asked to cave in to President Bush’s demand that Congress let phone companies off the hook for their willing cooperation with the administration’s illegal domestic spying program. Bush wants Congress to bury the truth by stopping lawsuits, which lets him off the hook, and gives no incentives for companies to follow the law in the future.

Senator Feinstein must not rubberstamp George W. Bush’s plan to whitewash activities like handing over Americans’ phone calls and emails without a warrant. Lawsuits that could put a stop to future legal and constitutional violations -- and expose the truth -- must move forward.

If you have 2 minutes: Email Senator Feinstein to demand action against Bush's telecom immunity plan.

Things aren't always what they seem OR "The Homegrown Terrorist Act" and fear as a control mechanism
Optical illusions are used to trick the mind in fun but harmless ways

Propaganda is also used to trick the mind as well, but it has a much more malicious reasons, which are to control people through fear by using a very powerful but seemingly innocuous methods

And perspective is everything

With all that in mind, the timing on this is very interesting

Bomb Wearing “Homegrown Terrorist” is to S. 1959 as the Anthrax Attacks is to the Patriot Act

In the vein of the anthrax attacks that helped pass the Patriot Act, when they were being held up, now, the S 1959 “Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007″, is JUST BY CHANCE, getting the same kind of LUCKY support while it languishes in the Senate and while people like me and many others question it’s constitutionality!

That’s right, a “homegrown terrorist” has strapped what he said was a bomb to his chest and decided to go to a Hillary Campaign headquarters in Rochester, New Hampshire.

Stunning Television Footage of Delta Fish Kill/Prospect Island Update
View the carnage of the huge fish kill at Prospect Island on the CBS13 website. There are already thousands and thousands of dead fish... and this is just the beginning of the fish kill.

http://cbs13.com/local/delta.levee.dead.2.594116.html

Judging by the number of fish shown in this footage shot from a helicopter by Channel 13 TV in Sacramento, this fishery disaster could end up being comparable to or worse than the Klamath Fish Kill of 2002. The majority of visible fish are striped bass, but salmon, steelhead, sturgeon, bluegill, crappie, largemouth bass and carp are also dead or dying. There is a very real possibility that delta smelt, a fish on the verge of extinction that is supposedly "protected" by the state and federal Endangered Species Acts, will be among the victims of this fish kill that is occuring while you read this.

Bob McDaris, Owner of Cliff's Marina, (916) 769-8047, one of the first to bring this situation to light, is on standby right now with 75 volunteers to go out and rescue any fish that are still alive. All he needs is the authority and means of transporting these fish across a muddy wallow to be released back into the river/slough system. He is also willing to donate money to hire a helicopter to transport the last remaining fish.
State and Federal Leaders Launch Investigations into Oil Spill Response
Here's a good summary of the current investigations into the oil spill response, courtesy of the San Francisco Baykeeper. If you want to contribute money or volunteer to assist in oil spill clean up and to stop further oil spills, this is a great organization to support.

State and Federal Leaders Launch Investigations into Oil Spill Response

On Monday, Senate President pro Tem Don Perata announced that he would introduce legislation to improve state efforts to fund oil spill prevention and response. The Senator also chastised the Governor for failing to appoint enough members to the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Board. Baykeeper spoke in support of quickly filling the empty Regional Board seats with environmentally minded appointments so that the Board can properly enforce the Clean Water Act against the Cosco Busan polluters.

Yesterday, U.S. Senators Barbara Boxer, Diane Feinstein, and Olympia Snowe convened a briefing in the U.S. Senate where they raised questions about the federal response to the oil spill. Baykeeper testified about the ways in which spill response after the accident failed. Our on-the-ground efforts were a key part of the hearing discussions.

Baykeeper Response to Cosco Busan Oil Spill on San Francisco Bay
The massive Cosco Busan oil spill on San Francisco Bay and the adjoining ocean waters continues to kill and injure birds, sea mammals and fish. It is a huge environmental tragedy, caused by corporate and government incompetence and mismanagement. This is the action alert about the oil spill from the Baykeeper from their website, http://www.baykeeper.org.

Citizen Response to San Francisco Bay Oil Spill

Let us know if you would like to get involved by signing up to help or by making a donation to support Baykeeper's efforts to clean up Bay pollution.

Wednesday’s spill of bunker fuel from a South Korea-bound container ship is shaping up to be much more serious than early reports indicated and appears to be the worst ship-related spill in more than a decade. The Coast Guard estimates that over 58,000 gallons of fuel were spilled from the accident, up from their initial approximation of only 140 gallons. Only a fraction of those gallons of fuel have been contained thus far.

San Francisco Baykeeper is investigating why initial reports underestimated the size of the spill and why the Coast Guard failed to immediately coordinate its response with the Office of Spill Prevention and Response, the state agency charged with responding to oil spills.
