Rangel: Preserve Millionaire Tax Cuts, Consider Soc. Security Cuts, Pass More Free Trade Pacts
submitted by

Feel free to contact Mr. Rangel and let him know how disappointed you are at the statements below.
DC office (202) 225-4365 NY office (212) 663-390--Bill Rangel: Preserve Millionaire Tax Cuts, Consider Soc. Security Cuts, Pass More Free Trade Pacts By David Sirota Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-NY) represents one of the poorest congressional districts in New York City. He also chairs the House Ways and Means Committee - the panel that oversees taxes and entitlements. This combination would lead the casual observer to think that Rangel, trying to represent his district, would be aggressively using his chairmanship to redirect President Bush’s tax cuts to lower-income people, strengthen and even expand Social Security and renegotiate trade deals to protect American jobs. But, no. That’s not what appears to be happening. In the weeks after the congressional election, Rangel has expressed interest in doing the exact opposite: preserving President Bush’s tax cuts for the wealthy; considering Social Security benefit cuts and retirement age hikes; and supporting lobbyist-written trade pacts that have no wage, environmental or human rights protections in them. He has, in other words, moved to side firmly with the Money Party against the People Party. Charlie Brown (CA-04) Doolittle debate TONIGHT wed. Oct 11

A couple of weeks ago a right-wing front group called "USA Next" made national news when it started its anti-Social Security campaign with a bigoted, hateful ad. Immediately, tens of thousands of DFA grassroots supporters created a backlash so strong that USA Next spent the next few weeks licking its wounds. But now they're back. USA Next is set to go on the air with its political hate speech in the next two weeks. Please act now -- petition media outlets to keep bigotry and distortions off the air: http://www.democracyforamerica.com/StopUSANext How to Talk to a Conservative About Social Security

We couldn't believe our ears when we heard a group of Republicans chanting, "Hey, hey. Ho, ho. Social Security has got to go" on CNN last night. But that is what they did, outside Senator Rick Santorum's Social Security town hall meeting in Philadelphia. Defend Social Security from Dan Lungren!!

on Monday, February 14, 2005 - 9:12pm PSTThis weekend both sides of the Social Security controversy hit the airwaves. Some are trying to persuade us that there is crisis which requires privatizing the system now and a Wall Street takeover. Others point out that analysts agree the system will remain solvent for 30 years and beyond just by maintaining the current system. What do you think Congress should do?
For the Record on Social Security

on Monday, January 10, 2005 - 11:10pm PSTNY Times
January 10, 2005 For the Record on Social Security Late February is now the time frame mentioned by the White House for unveiling President Bush's plan to privatize Social Security. The timing is no accident. By waiting until then, the president will conveniently avoid having to include the cost of privatization - as much as $2 trillion in new government borrowing over the next 10 years - in his 2006 budget, expected in early February. |
