FUND TEACHERS, NOT PRISONS – EDUCATION, NOT INCARCERATION!
Join us this Friday, March 14th, at 10 AM, in room 113 of the State Capitol Buiding, Sacramento, when the Board of Public Works discusses the authorization of lease revenue bonds to build 53,000 new prison and jail beds in California.
If enough people protest, we may be able to get the vote tabled until amendments are added to AB900, the prison bill pushed through with virtually no debate on the floor of the assembly.

Bring signs and banners:

FUND TEACHERS, NOT PRISONS – EDUCATION, NOT INCARCERATION!

Consider this: California spends $7,000 per year to educate a public school student, but over $43,000 to incarcerate a prisoner. With the stage budget crisis $14-billion and climbing, thousands of teachers are receiving lay-off notices. Meanwhile, Governor Schwarzenegger wants to sell prison bonds that will cost the taxpayers an estimated $15-billion over the next 20 years.
