The Sacramento Bee held a seminar recently on “How to Get Your News in the News” and I attended. Thought I’d pass on some info.

It was in the Eleanor McClatchy Center. Which is not marked and it’s not 2100 Q St., Sac. 95852, but is one of the two buildings directly across from the Bee, which is at that address. Parking is available there.

We all got copies of their new brochure “How to Get Your News in the News”. (I hoped it was on their site, but I couldn’t find it.)

Pam Dinsmore, Assistant Managing Editor, Features & Design, introduced herself and the rest of the Panel, Stuart Drown, City Editor, and Todd Milbourn, Reporter, Non-profit beat.

The gist of the whole session is that if you want something in the Bee, you should figure out where it should go logically and develop a relationship with the editor of that section.  Generally, email it, then call to follow up. Everyone agreed: “never call after 4.  Pam wants a call first, but the others like e-mails first. Typically someone will call to confirm after you send something to them.
