Community Speak-Out Against the War
On Sunday, May 1, 2005, peace, justice & progressive groups including Grandmothers for Peace, Veterans for Peace, Sacramento for Democracy, Progressive Democrats of Sacramento, People Opposing War, and others, are organizing a community speak out against the occupation of Iraq and Bush’s plan for more war. May 2 is the second anniversary of Bush’s proclaiming that the mission was accomplished in Iraq.

The event will be at the North Steps of the State Capitol. Starting at 5pm, there will be music; we invite people to bring a picnic supper, listen to the music, peruse the literature tables & displays. The program will start at 6pm. It will include reading of statements about how the war harms people, the environment, our rights, etc. and also an open-mike time during which people can make short statements about why they or their groups oppose the war. At the close of the event, people are welcome to participate in a candlelight vigil along the sidewalks at 10th & L Streets.

If you are interested in tabling at this event, there is a $10 fee. Please contact Maggie Couter with with any questions you may have: 456-1420
