on Monday, February 14, 2005 - 2:11pm PSTDear Siobhan
My son, Spc Casey A. Sheehan was KIA in Iraq on 04/04/04. Are you aware that when a soldier enlists in the service, he/she swears an oath to protect the Constitution of the United States of America? Article one of the Bill of Rights (In the US Constitution) reads: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. Soldier's Uniform Display Ignites Freedom of Speech Battle in Sacramento
by Dan Bacher A display of a soldier's uniform on the gable of a house in a quiet neighborhood in the Land Park District of Sacramento has ignited a battle between anti-war activists and Bush administration supporters over the First Amendment. The conflict has created a media circus of TV cameras, newspaper reporters and talk show radio hosts in front of the house many days over the past week. Kristallnacht in Sacramento?

on Saturday, February 12, 2005 - 2:40pm PSTI just received this message in my email box this morning. This just illustrates the undue hatred from certain neo-cons toward anyone or anything different from them.
These neo-cons are afraid of an idea. They're angry that anyone could hold differing beliefs to theirs. Let me put it this way: Suppose these "Mensans" who tore down the effigy wanted to put up their own display for Easter. Suppose their display happened to be a representation of their faith, in the form of a large crucifix with Jesus nailed to it with blood stains and a sign aound Jesus' neck that said, "I was killed by the Jews to absolve your sins." Now couldn't that be offensive to someone of the Jewish faith? Suppose a Jewish person decided to rip the crucifix down, chant slogans, and threaten the homeowner. Now, what would be the the first words out of that homeowners mouth? Free speech, right? You may disagree with the message ... but it's a constitutional right. on Friday, February 11, 2005 - 3:47pm PSTNow that Howard Dean will be elected Chair of the DNC, we would like to encourage you to donate to the DNC (Democratic National Committee). Please donate in amounts of $20.06 (or in amounts that end in .06 ... $10.06, $30.06, etc...)
$20.06 represents 2006 - the year the Democratic party, under the leadership of Governor Dean, takes back Congress, and progressive politicians at all ballot levels are elected. Please use this secure link so that they know your donation came from Sacramento: If your situation allows, please contribute to Sacramento For Democracy and/or Howard Dean's Democracy for America as we are the one's that are in direct contact with the grassroots and WE are the one's that will move this party to victory! Walking Wounded Old soldiers don't fade away by Fred Reed The observant will have noticed that we hear little from the troops in Iraq and see almost nothing of the wounded. Why, one might wonder, does not CNN put an enlisted Marine before a camera and, for 15 minutes without editing, let him say what he thinks? Is he not an adult and a citizen? Is he not engaged in important events on our behalf? Woolsey, 24 Dems, Ask Bush to Withdraw GIs

Don't Let Republican Leadership "Go Nuclear" on Supreme Court We could lose our fight against a right-wing Supreme Court takeover before a vacancy and nomination occur – even as early as next month. This threat comes in the form of the “nuclear option” being considered by Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) and being pushed by the Religious Right, who would like President Bush’s Supreme Court nominees to be rubber stamped. As I have traveled across our country, I have talked to thousands of people who are working for change in their own communities about the power of politics to make a difference in their own lives and in the lives of others. Every group I have spoken to, I encouraged them to stand up for what they believe and to get involved in the electoral process -- because the only sure way to make difference is to step up and run for office yourself.
