PHYSICIAN SHARES HER EXPERIENCES IN ISRAEL AND PALESTINE

Sunday, December 2, 2007, 7 to 9 PM
Davis Branch Library, Blanchard Room
315 East 14th Street (at B Street), Davis

Boston-area physician, author and activist Alice Rothchild will be visiting
the Sacramento area for three events to discuss her recently-released book,
"Broken Promises, Broken Dreams: Stories of Jewish and Palestinian Trauma
and Resilience."

The book follows the journey of a Jewish American physician traveling and
working within Israel and the Occupied Territories. Alice Rothchild grew up
in a family grounded by the traumas of the Holocaust and passionately
devoted to Israel. This book recounts her experiences as she grapples with
the reality of life in Israel, the complexity of Jewish Israeli attitudes
and the hardships of Palestinians living in the West Bank and Gaza.
Ultimately, the book raises troubling questions regarding US policy and the
mainstream Jewish community's insistence on giving unquestioning support to
all Israeli policy.

Alice's visit is sponsored by the Sacramento chapter of Jewish Voice for
Peace, and co-sponsored by Physicians for Social Responsibility, Israel
Peace Alternatives, and Elk Grove Peace and Justice Forum. For more
