Beyond the Proscenium Productions presents this stunning re-write of Shakespeare’s Hamlet that takes us into the political and emotional heart of the Middle Eastern world today. Playwright Al-Bassam has taken out most of the Shakespearean text and replaced it with text based on the Arabic poetic tradition and political rhetoric. First performed in English at the Cairo International Festival and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2002 where it received rave reviews and a number of international prizes.
