Subject: [wpi05_06] Women's Policy Institute now accepting applications for 2006/2007 program!

********PLEASE FORWARD*****************

Dear Colleague,
We are thrilled to announce the fourth year of the Women's Policy Institute, a project of the Women's Foundation of California!

The Women's Policy Institute (WPI) has, since 2003, provided intensive advocacy and lobbying training for up to 28 California women a year who are poised to play a greater role in advocating for public policy that advances women's and girls' agendas. The success of the program has been phenomenal - powerful learning experiences using real legislation (and other policy projects) that have created laws that will impact women's lives throughout California.

Over the course of a year, fellows participate in four retreats, on-going teleconferences, and other activities aimed to provide "learning while doing." Each Fellow will work in a small team to jointly develop and implement a policy advocacy project (legislation, legislative hearing, or regulatory advocacy). Each team will have a team mentor who will be from among some of the most accomplished women's
policy advocates and lobbyists in the state. The retreats reflect and respond to the racial and socio-economic diversity and different learning styles of the Fellows and provide an opportunity to share tactics and lessons learned while each team is
moving forward on their project.

Areas of focus for the 2006/2007 program are: health, economic development/justice, environmental health and reproductive rights.
