Memo to Darrell Steinberg and Karen Bass: California Voters Set the Democrats Free: Will They Act?

George Lakoff is one gazillion per cent right. Take this opportunity and ... runnnnnnnn... with it; take the bull by the horns. I've been saying for a long time that the 2/3's rule needs to be repealed, and along with that, much of Prop 13 needs to be amended, which is how the 2/3's rule got inserted into the state constitution. And btw, Prop 13 was nothing but a Trojan Horse for tax cuts for the wealthiest of the wealthy pushed by that greedy-willfully-ignorant-nutcase Howard Jarvis.

Click the picture below - which shows a list on a scroll depicting the $19 Billion in cuts to state government that the Democrats have adopted in the past four years - for a youtube of California State Assembly Budget Committee Chair Noreen Evans debunking the myths and lies of the state budget, most of which are propagated by talk radio hosts and the state's teh stupid Republicans who aren't honest and whose only "solutions" are cuts to the most vulnerable

Why is it that the Republicans never have to compromise?

California Voters Set the Democrats Free: Will They Act?

Hooray! The outrageous propositions 1 A-E have been crushed by voters who just can’t take any more.

California voters have rejected the nonfunctional minority-rule government that has bankrupted the state, along with the governor who led the state into bankruptcy.

The voters want a functional democracy, and that means majority rule. No more blackmail by a 1/3 plus 1 Republican minority.

In short, the voters have given the Democrats a new freedom – if they will only take it.

The Democratic leadership should listen to its grassroots.

They should immediately stop negotiating with the governor and other Republicans on how to destroy even more of what makes our state human. The Democrats, as a whole body, not just the leadership, should assert their majority, decide for themselves how they want to deal with the shortfall, and then invite the defeated Republicans publicly to join them and take their proposals to the public, first organizing serious grassroots support.

What is the point of doing this if the Democrats still don’t have the 2/3 votes to pass a budget bill? The point is drama! Most Californians are not aware of the minority rule situation. This could dramatize it and place the blame where it belongs. Drama matters. There might still be a later compromise. But the drama would set the stage for a 2010 ballot initiative.

The Democratic leadership should immediately take the initiative on a 2010 ballot measure, a supremely simple one-sentence measure. It would go something like this:

All budgetary and revenue issues shall be decided by a majority vote in both houses of the legislature.

Amy Traub

When election time comes around, members of Congress can’t say enough about the middle class. They’re planning middle-class tax cuts, vowing to attract middle-class jobs, and promising to stay connected with their middle-class constituents. But what really happens once they’re in office?

The Drum Major Institute has tracked your representatives all year on Now it’s time to hand out the grades.

Today, DMI releases grades for every U.S. Senator and Representative evaluating their votes on key legislation that impacts the nation’s middle class and Americans aspiring to a middle-class standard of living.

Why I'm Not Now and Have Never Been the Democrats' "Rush Limbaugh"

Friday 06 March 2009 - by: Michael Moore | Visit article original @ MichaelMoore.Com

Michael Moore tells Republicans: "The days of using my name as a pejorative are now over." (Photo: Saed Hindash / The Star-Ledger)

I have watched with mild amusement this week the self-immolation of the Republican Party as it bows before the altar of Rush Limbaugh, begging for mercy, pleading for forgiveness, breathlessly seeking guidance and wisdom from The Oracle.

President Obama and the Democratic Party have wasted no time in pointing out to the American people this marriage from hell, tying Rush like a rock around the collective Republican neck and hoping for its quick descent to the netherworld of irrelevance.
