NATIVE PLANT SALE: Wildflower Weekend includes a native plant sale where visitors can purchase plants for their own gardens, with free assistance available from gardening experts. As always, a wide variety of gardening books, field guides, and other native plant literature will be for sale. Proceeds from this event support the chapter’s outreach, education and conservation work.

The PLANT EXHIBIT: The plant exhibit will showcase native plants of the American River Watershed – in habitats ranging from mid-montane, foothill, prairie, and wetlands. It will be hosted by expert naturalists.

INTERACTIVE FUN (in and near Plant Exhibit Hall)

    * Focus on Flowers - Get lost in the delicate details of flowers and their pollinators using a microscope
    * Noticing Nature - Try out the new CNPS drawing curriculum "Opening the World through Field Journaling"
    * Plant A Poppy – Make a newspaper pot; add poppy seeds, and viola! you have poppies to take home and watch grow.
    * Wander in Wonder - Discover the abundance of plant and animal life on a scavenger hunt

WALKS (Family Friendly Walks)

    * Farm Tour 10:00 Sat and Sun: Join Soil Born Farms Staff in a guided tour of the American River Ranch and learn about how their non-profit farm and education center is improving health through innovative food production, food access and education programs.
    * Bird Walk for Families 10:30 - 11:00 Sat and Sun: Join Sacramento Audubon for a brief walk and talk about common Sacramento birds. Binoculars provided. Limited to the first 10 families each day.
    * Don’t Plant a Pest 11:00 Sat and Sun: On a walk to the River; discover the native plant alternatives to invasive plants for the local Sacramento area with Meghan Skaer, PhD Student, Graduate Group in Ecology, UC Davis. See the work she and collaborators Marit Wilkerson and Annabelle Kleist have developed.
    * Ecology and Ethnobotany 12:00 Sat and Sun: Take a walk with David Self, Adjunct Professor of Natural Resources at ARC and co-founder of The Place Program, People Linking Art, Culture & Ecology. Learn how to recognize and honor Native traditions that sustained and celebrated a myriad of foods, crafts and rich biodiversity through centuries.
    * The Bees Have It! 1:00 Sat and Sun: Saturday Join Katharina Ullman from the UC Davis Bee Laboratory for a talk about the importance of native bee pollinators in our urban landscapes followed by a walk to check out bees on Soil Born Farms hedgerow. Julie Serences will be leading the walk Sunday. Bees are not optional.
    * Cordova Creek – 2:00 Sat and Sun: Walk to Clifton's Drain and learn about its upcoming transformation to a meandering, naturalized creek - aka Cordova Creek.

GARDENING TALKS in the Nursery

    * Create a Thriving Ecosystem in Your Yard- 11:30 Sat and Sun: Learn how to garden for habitat and wildlife with Julie Serences, Habitat Ambassador & Board Member Sacramento Valley CNPS.
    * Creating your own California Meadow 12:30 Sat only: Taylor Lewis, Environmental Horticulturist at Cornflower Farms Nursery will address topics including Lawn removal, using cool season grass in harmony with warm season grasses. Using annuals and perennial wildflowers, Timing your show, and Maintenance, Strategies for reducing initial labor with your new meadow.
    * Beauty & Sustainability With Native Plants 1:30 Sun only: Alison Shilling, Director on State Board, Master Gardener, State CNPS Native Plant Gardening Committee member
