For the last several days, there has been a running debate on this page about how and when the United States should withdraw from Iraq. It began with a post of mine asking FYI forum members to come up with a plan to do this, as everyone appears to be in agreement that leaving Iraq is something that must happen.

Eyes Wide Open Exhibit

The Eyes Wide Open Exhibit put on by the American Friends Service Committee is being protested by some Gold Star Marine Moms who don't want their children's boots to be tagged with their child's name..which is fine, but they are planning a protest for Monday, Feb. 28th at the exhibit in Dallas. I will be going there to support the Friends and the exhibit, but here is a letter I also wrote in support of the exhibit.

My son, Spc Casey A. Sheehan was KIA in Iraq on 04/04/04. Are you aware that when a soldier enlists in the service, he/she swears an oath to protect the Constitution of the United States of America?

Article one of the Bill of Rights (In the US Constitution) reads:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

I was supposed to be on the Larry King Live show Monday night. I was asked to be on the show to offer my opinion on the election in Iraq from the perspective of a mom whose son was killed in the war prior to the elections. One of the questions I was going to be asked was: Do I think my son’s sacrifice was “worth it?” Well, I didn’t get a chance to be on the show that night because I was bumped for something that is really important: The Michael Jackson Trial.
