On September 17, the Sac Bee endorsed "rookies", Matsui and Lungren for Congress. (Lungren is running for his 7th term in Congress, not to mention 2 terms as Attorney General and his gubernatorial loss to Gray Davis.)
1. PDA supports a negotiated, just, and peaceful solution between Israel and the Palestinian people, as represented by their lawfully elected governments. That solution will require the establishment of two states as a precondition for achieving a lasting peace. Claims of the Palestinian people over land, refugees, final borders and settlements and Israeli concerns over security and water rights must be addressed. PDA supports the aspirations of both Israelis and Palestinians for security and selfdetermination, an end to the Israeli occupation of the West Bank, an end to all violence in Israel and Palestine, most especially against civilians, and a resolution of the Palestinian refugee problem consistent with international law and equity.

ISRAELI HOSPITAL
As patients stay safe underground, a doctor takes stock of rocket's toll
By Matthew Kalman, Globe Correspondent |

NAHARIYA, Israel -- Dr. Uri Rehany picked his way through the wreckage of the Western Galilee Hospital's eye department where a Hezbollah rocket had exploded, destroying the entire floor.
Rehany, 59, the director of the eye unit, said he was first on the scene when the rocket hit Friday in this northern Israeli town, 6 miles south of the border with Lebanon. It was one out of more than 2,000 rockets fired by Hezbollah fighters from southern Lebanon into Israel in the past three weeks of warfare.
U.S.-based Human Rights Watch (HRW) yesterday revised the number of fatalities in the Israeli air strike on the Lebanese village of Qana from over 50 to 28.
HRW said that the figures, based on data released by the Lebanese Red Cross and a Tyre hospital, included 16 children under the age of 16. HRW said that no additional bodies were found under the debris.

Thoughts for the day:
The fighting continues. There were six sirens in Haifa today; the first caught us at 11 this morning while we were in a taxi. We stopped and took shelter in a house. The driver, an Arab from the mixed-faith village of Kababir (by now actually more of a neighborhood within Haifa), took shelter with us and complained about the fear the sirens raise in his three children. During the rest of the ride (it was a false alarm, or else the rocket fell somewhere in the sea), the driver expressed his rage at the Hizbollah. “I am an Arab,†he said. “I know how Arabs think. Unless you hit them hard they think you’re weak.â€ÂÂÂÂÂÂ

Dear friends,
Unfortunately events I previously forecasted have started happening in the Middle East. While this reinforces the warnings in American Hiroshima, I would prefer to be wrong.

Every time the media - or a Democrat - uses the phrase "War in Iraq" they are promoting one of Karl Rove's most potent Republican Party frames.
There is no longer a war against Iraq.
It ended in May of 2003, when George W. Bush stood below a "Mission Accomplished" sign aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln and correctly declared that we had "victoriously" defeated the Iraqi army and overthrown their government.

Brad Friedman (BradBlog.com) was on the Thom Hartmann show today. Although there is proof of irregularities in the Busby/Bilbray race, Bilbray has already been sworn into Congress and is adding his hand at destroying the country.

I streamed Hour 4 of the Randi Rhodes show on Tuesday, 6/13. She said that every Democrat during the House budget debate encouraged all persons to consolidate their student loans before July 1 interest rate hike. Also to call their Representative or a Democratic representative for any assistance.
Rep. Henry Waxman has some helpful information here

Heard on Thom Hartmann today.
Quietly but systematically, the Bush Administration is advancing the plan to build a huge NAFTA Super Highway, four football-fields-wide, through the heart of the U.S. along Interstate 35, from the Mexican border at Laredo, Tex., to the Canadian border north of Duluth, Minn.
